From the author:
Reality and madness
At least that's not the case: "You're just pregnant and not ill," hisses Christina, Susanne's supervisor, her completely distraught co-worker. "You think young things, you can not work anymore, and only because a baby is on the way," Christina waves wildly with her arms. Susanne only wanted to give up the medical work ban and discuss the planned parental leave. What happened?
Let's face it: the corporate culture in many Company is rather modest. Susanne, too, had arrived in the harsh reality. It's easy to understand. She did not fit in with her employer anymore. He had other plans with her, and now she was pregnant - and thus useless for this business. "I am fired, and if I do not like it, I should complain."
On my advice, Susanne remained in contact with the company during maternity leave and parental leave. There followed several conversations, in which the situation seemed to relax.
Three days before the start of employment - the first birthday of her child approached - her boss told her that they can appear as agreed to work. She was delighted to drive to the company on the agreed day. An hour later, I received the following call: "I have quit and if I do not like it, I should complain."
Corporate philosophy of tomorrow?
The dismissal was justified by "operational", although someone else was hired. How Susanne felt well? Certainly similar thoughts are going through your head like mine. Which company philosophy is lived there?
I realize the situation sounds drastic. Unfortunately, it happened exactly like that. And does not shed a good light on the corporate culture. Rather, it is also highly demotivating for other employees.
My opinion about it
It is clear that without successive generations the world will die out. In addition, we are getting older and older and whether we are financially and nursing secured, is questionable. However, it is undisputed that too few children are born today to fill all the gaps
Who cares about you when you are old and frail? Who will bring the money to the companies in the future? What happens to such company philosophies? Do you have any positive examples?
Long-term damage to the corporate culture
But such a lack of respect and respect is not only bad for others, it also has a negative impact on other employees and the entire corporate culture. Here's another example:
Not my idea? Then I do not care too much. As in the sentence above, most people think, right? Why is it that many often react dismissively to others' ideas? Think about it: What do you feel when someone tells you their suggestions in a very enthusiastic way? In general, you are usually skeptical - right? And that's exactly what happens to your employees!
"Do that!", Has had its day
"We do it like that. It works like this. Do it! "Has become obsolete. Nowadays you do not wake anyone up. Dedicated and motivated people have their own ideas. If you let them speak, they even say this :)
Co-thinkers are great, because that inspires everyone, including a boss. Just indicate the desired goal and use the thoughts of your employees. But do not steal the ideas from your employees, but actively involve the others!
Involve your employees
Tip: Share larger projects before an upcoming meeting. Request the thoughts of others on the topic in writing. Advantages: Employees gather their ideas in advance. In written form, they have to think more intensively.
Is the team too big? Share it - so that everyone has their say. Talk to each team member as a boss! In the meeting you address everyone personally and lure him out of the reserve. Nothing is worse than ignoring prepared people. Next time they will not bother anymore.
Does not work - does not exist with you
Important: LOVE your employees for every idea, every initiative - even if it is rejected.
Consistently and routinely you tackle all future projects. It will help you to have open and creative discussions, and your ideas will be more popular. Does not work - does not exist with you, not even because you: praise, praise, praise!
