Technology helps make book!
Eva, although a true digital native in age terms, is actually one of those people who print texts on the Internet because they are easier to read on paper. And she occasionally complains because she finds my lyrics far too long ...
As for her preference for the printed word, however, Eva is in good company: According to a survey of the polling institute Forsa presented earlier this year, 84 percent of students in Germany would like a broader use of new media in the classroom.
What studies show
The study commissioned by the high-tech association BITKOM, however, promotes a second key statement: 71 percent of the students still do not believe that e-books or educational software can adequately replace the textbook.
A student survey at the school center Carl von Ossietzky in Bremerhaven confirms that printed matter is still highly valued as the basis for learning from aspiring high school graduates, but electronic media can be a useful supplement. It is read, read a lot, in books and notes. Many students, for example, learn how to rework their own notes into booklet content - when it comes to retouching, part of the subject matter already "hangs". The Internet is mainly used for reference.
Old exams as a learning method?
When web portals offered such content a few years ago, a heated discussion ensued. "The write yes only off," was the main criticism, the Internet would literally animate to spanking and cheating. Not true, says senior student Eike Hoffmann: "I also like to take original exams into my lessons. They are more authentic than normal, shorter exams. "
The fixed time frame of the Abitur examination could be very well tested with old examinations. For example, students in English have to decide between two texts within 30 minutes - and remain in their decision because the tasks clearly fill the rest of the time.
Learning - but how?
Eike Hoffmann also points to the valuable comparison between original Abitur exams and "normal" exams. "With the comparison, students have the opportunity to obtain conclusions about their learning status with their own structure of their own exams. Learning deficits can be so well recognized and compensated. "Your tip for students:" Keep your own old exams necessarily. They help with error analysis, especially while being aware of individual, typical mistakes. "
Pupil Isabel Nives Peckel (19) uses old Abitur exams and exams exactly as follows: "I look at the task again and check whether I can answer them yet. If not, I repeat this subject area. "Educational software, Internet or mobile phone are used as a supplement to her and all other surveyed students. And, according to classmate Ina Tinis (19): "Even books preparing for high school graduation play a major role for me."
Help, test anxiety!
Despite all the possibilities to organize the learning afternoon for the Abitur 2011 individually efficiently: On one point old and new media offer no insider tips - in the fight against exam anxiety. But that is not so big with the students. The opinion of ex-high school graduate Iven John on the subject of exam anxiety is reflected in many student comments: "I have Respect before exams, a certain unknown can never be excluded. But talking about fear and talking about it can only be bad. "
Teacher Eike Hoffmann remembers her Abitur exam: "Tricks against test anxiety, I actually had none. In the meantime I just concentrated on the fact that all the tension will end. The prospect of the time after the stress helped me personally. "
