Business Shoes: Healthy or Chic?

For a long time I was looking for a pair of suitable shoes in which you can also give lectures and attend events and fairs. After all, such business events sometimes mean standing for hours or walking around, and it's more than helpful to wear comfortable shoes.

I remember well one event last winter that had given the hostesses plastic shoes for 5 Euro - they were so uncomfortable that I congratulated a young woman for taking off her shoes.

Fashion and dress code more important

The topic of clothing is becoming more and more important, especially in the somewhat old-fashioned HR industry: Just last week, Robrindro Ullah, an ex-recruiting director at Deutsche Bahn and now editor of the HR-Life magazine, admitted Fashion and style questions interviewed at business events, His opinion on this topic:

Already today there are very elegant alternatives to the classic high heels, which can easily be worn for a chic evening wear. The manufacturers are already reacting to the trend here.

Lectures: It depends on the right shoes

My personal motto, especially when you are at the center of attention during lectures: The shoes should be comfortable. Because such a lecture can easily take an hour. At the same time, the shoes should not be too clumsy, for example, to be able to wear them under skirts or trouser suits.

And that's where the problem begins, because many shoes have a catch: they are tapering at the front and do not correspond to the natural foot shape. Yes, many normal shoes even cause foot deformities in this way.

Benefits of healthy shoes

Therefore, I am glad that I think the shoe brands Think! discovered. Think! not only pursues a sustainable approach in the manufacture of its products, but also delivers its shoes in a wide, foot-friendly yet chic fit.

Of course, there are shoes that are also healthy for feet - but unfortunately health shoes or orthopedic shoes often look the same. The Austrian Heading company Think! Remedy this.

Keynote Speaker: Better by comfortable shoes

No wonder, then, that I attended my keynote speech last week at the Symposium of the Heilbronn University I chose the “KONG” lace-up shoe: it is made of gray and red tanned suede and, with the asymmetrical toe, offers me exactly the space my foot needs.

He has a removable footbed, ie the inserts can be replaced by orthopedic insoles - this is quite typical for Think! -Shoes. In addition, the KONG has a strong latex outsole, which makes the shoe very stable, but unfortunately also quite heavy. It is closed by a sturdy lacing.

Because: Comfortable shoes also ensure a better mood among your wearers - and thus also better keynotes. Or as Robindro Ullah said so beautifully: “Forget the saying 'Whoever wants to be beautiful has to suffer'. " He is right!

Healthy and Chic: What makes Think different?

But what exactly does Think! so different? Martin Koller, son of a traditional Austrian shoemaker family, founded Think! At the end of the 80s with the aim of producing individual, comfortable, sustainable and well-crafted shoes. He developed new last shapes and soft soles and combined them with chic shapes and colors.

And Think! today: They are available in all sorts of colorful colors and shapes, as lace-ups and slippers, for ladies and gentlemen. Some, thanks to their extraordinary shapes, remind of medieval beaks. Upper material is usually leather. And I like the men's shoes in color and form almost better than the ladies' shoes.

Sustainable approach

At Think! In addition, the sustainable approach is interesting: if shoes break once, both the footbed and the sole can be easily replaced. The shoes are manufactured by hand in production plants in Italy, Hungary, Bosnia and Romania by employees in up to 200 work steps.

Now it does not necessarily mean better working conditions to produce shoes in Europe - in Romania, the minimum wage is apparently even lower than in China - after all, Think! but to transparency in terms of production conditions and environmental guidelines, published regularly on the blog and offers its own form to specifically ask where your own shoes were made.

Further steps are necessary

The fact that the clothing and footwear industry has to go through many steps towards a truly sustainable production is also evident here. This is what the Think! Blog says:

We regularly open the way we work. This also means to say what we can not (yet).

Great contribution, you are quite right, far too often you squeeze into too tight, uncomfortable shoes and especially at lectures, this is a problem.
