Wilhelm von Humboldt is now regarded as the great university reformer of the 19. Century. His ideas helped the German university out of the kills of the 18. Century and gave the university its new form, its new basic idea, which has preserved it until today, at least in theory.
Humboldt is not possible without programmatic basic fonts
Humboldt's much-lauded changes would not have been possible without different programmatic principles. In this respect, it is unjustified to attribute the merits of the university reform to Humboldt alone.
But the most detailed university plan was presented by the philosopher Johann Gottlieb Fichte with his work “Deduced plan of a higher education institution to be built in Berlin”.
Spruce as a template of Humboldt
Humboldt's own programmatic writing “On the internal and external organization of higher academic institutions in Berlin”, on the other hand, contained only a few pages.
This work deals with the university concept of Johann Gottlieb Fichte and its reception by Humboldt and thus its realization in the development of the University of Berlin and to a lesser extent with its impact on today's university.
