It is clear that the self-employed have to do a lot themselves. However, as a self-employed person, one often has the impression of having to take care of every little thing on its own. It would often be better to first keep your feet still.

If you think you have to do everything yourself ...

Overview

There are many things that the self-employed mean to have to take care of: customers, who have to be reminded constantly, finally pay the fees, offices of which one still needs this or that certificate or contractors, who slumber themselves and because of them you go swimming.

And when something really goes wrong, many self-employed people are quickly available as firefighters. However, it is not always useful to immediately delete any fire. Sometimes it is better to wait a while, because some problems can be done by themselves. Sometimes it is tactically wiser.

There are many good reasons to keep your feet still:

Overview

  1. Because you do not know for sure whether you belong to those affected at all.
  2. Because it is necessary to provide for more important tasks, to which one may be called.
  3. Because the experts have not yet clearly shown that it is actually burning.
  4. Because you are convinced that the responsible people have long since been to delete
  5. Because, for certain reasons, it is a good thing to burn it all down.
  6. Because you prefer not to go into danger.
  7. Because you want to show the others that there is no reason to panic.
  8. Because it is indifferent to you.
  9. Because you must first notify everyone else of the outbreak of the fire.
  10. Because it is already too late and it is not worth it anymore.
  11. Because you just want to see how the others can get along without their own co-operation.
  12. Because it has burnt in a certain way and you are accustomed to the fact that so far everything went well.
  13. Because, despite the flames and smoke, you are convinced that it can not burn.
  14. Because you do not want to show your fear on any case.
  15. Because, please very, finally, delete those who have caused the fire.
  16. Because you have set the fire yourself and do not want to betray yourself.
  17. Because you did not set the fire, and delete could give the impression that you have a guilty conscience.
  18. Because you enjoy the grandiose sight of the conflagration
  19. ...

The tips come from the book "The spoilsport or The legacy of fools" by Michael Ende.

Unfortunately, this text is almost literally copied without mentioning the source. No good custom.
The list of "reasons not to erase when a fire breaks out" is by Michael Ende from the book "Der Spielverderber" (p. 205).

    • Simone Janson

      Dear Magdalene,
Thanks for the important hint, as we do not have the original source, it would only be nice if you could do which part exactly. Obviously it's about the tips and not the whole text, right? The text was submitted by an author some time ago, unfortunately we do not control where our authors take their lyrics and we have to rely on them. But I will pass this on to the author and the reference in the text.

      • Magdalena

        Hello Simone,
Yes, this refers to the tips, not to the introduction.
I thought it was so well known, because I googled after.

        • Simone Janson

Thank you. It is unfortunately not possible that we can control the text with every author.
