Cope with increasing complexity

Overview

To this day, one finds in the requirement profile of executives the terms "goal achievement" and "planning". Much more important than the abilities behind these terms will in future be the recognition and reflection of contexts (context). One strategy for overcoming complexity is patterning. The orientation knowledge is gaining in importance.

It is important to distinguish which framework conditions are important and important for desired changes. Thus, the apparently objectively available knowledge loses its meaning. The question of which action strategies are effective and significant also takes a back seat. For the leader of the future, this entails a change of roles: instead of assuming the responsibility for the successful implementation of processes as a "planner", the "partner" is needed, who offers reflection space in the team as a context-clarifying communication.

The time of central dirigism comes to an end

Overview

In the old management world - Management 1. Order - is power of organization exercised over structures (organizational charts, hierarchies, etc.). In the increasingly important world of management in the future - Management 2. Order - 4.0 acquires executive power by creating a framework in which organizations move into new patterns through their inherent resources.

For this too, the future successful manager must grow into new roles. The "thought leader" and the "supervisory authority" become a "participant" and a "catalyst" in networks. It will be crucial to what extent the manager manages to achieve an emotional resonance. To meet these new requirements requires a much higher social sensitivity than initially assumed. Cooperation beyond cultural, age-dependent and gender-specific boundaries is in demand in intelligent networks of the future.

Serving leadership as a guiding principle

Overview

It is noteworthy that the changes associated with the digitization of the workforce seem to be handled without major problems by those who understand leadership as a service to the community. The word "serve" may sound strange in the context of leadership and could be misunderstood. It's not about one leading and serving others, and vice versa, guiding and serving everyone else.

Rather, we are concerned with the question of which image of man carries the leadership in himself and thus treats himself and the people entrusted to him. Even though I have a different role as a leader, which is a different part of the organization, it is about treating my counterpart as an equivalent part of the organization. Unfortunately, many leaders have not really understood the difference between difference and equivalence.

Differentiate between persons and actions

Overview

In concrete terms, this means differentiating between the individual and his / her actions. In an atmosphere of mutual appreciation and respect, criticism is perceived not as a hurtful humiliation, but as an important feedback for resource and potential development.

Instead of riding on weaknesses strengths are placed at the center. When leaders learn to understand that the sense of appreciation and acceptance is as important as breathing the air, learning to take back their own ego and accepting their associates as they are, then "resonance" takes place. Such executives like to follow employees voluntarily.

Sind Company and executives "fit for the future"?

Overview

Honestly? Apparently no! At least a large part of the executives, who meet me daily as a personnel consultant and executive coach, reflect a catastrophic picture. Between the claim "Man is the center of attention" - often to be found in the glossy brochures of companies - and reality often makes a big difference. In particular, owner-managed, small and medium-sized companies, in which the generational change is in the house and the founder has to give the helm out of hand, executives often report a deal that is hair-raising.

What has been practiced as a success formula during the start-up period and the following years, we now turn to the case knot and the existential danger. Especially young, dedicated leaders shun such cultures or leave the organization. The solution is anything but simple, but it starts at the top of the hierarchy - the owner, the shareholder, the management and the board. To reflect on your own role, to question your image of the human being and to guide you and to enter into an open, trustworthy and changeable dialogue is certainly the first step on a longer journey. It is all the better to make changes more active than to get caught up in the realities and to fall into actionism.
