You must pay the cost of a Further Training but not necessarily self-supporting. There are different ways to get grants.

Employment Agency

One of the first contact points for this is the Federal Agency for Labor. Here, the work consultant is responsible for advising and financing the training. Make an appointment for a personal meeting. However, you should not go into the conversation completely unprepared, but take note of some things and know under what circumstances the Federal Agency promotes further training at all.

The Arbeitsagentur supports only two types of further training: the training measures according to §4826 and §421i27 SGB III and the continuing vocational training according to §77 ff28 SGB III.

Measures to improve the integration prospects

The so-called training measures in the employment agency jargon are officially called “measures to improve integration prospects”. As a rule, they do not last longer than twelve weeks. They are intended to support you with career orientation and improve your chances of finding a job.

Examples of sole training measures include languageCourses, application coaching or business start-up advice. Training measures are intended to significantly improve the chances of a professional retirement.

Example:

An office worker who needs Excel skills for the new job. Or the warehouse worker with a concrete prospect of a job - all that's missing is a forklift license.

The training measures also include "aptitude tests". These are psychological tests that the BA uses to determine whether and what you can (and want to) work. At first glance, these measures, which may seem quite different, have one thing in common: they are specifically designed to make the way back to work easier. The condition is of course that you are unemployed or at least threatened with unemployment.

Advantage of the training measures:

In contrast to further training, they do not necessarily have to be entitled to unemployment benefits. Not only does this make training so attractive: if a training activity is performed while you have a job, your employer can get a grant for it.

The employment agency organizes this measure itself, so you have no effort with the search with a suitable measure as an education voucher. In addition, training measures are cheaper and shorter than long-term training, but need not be inappropriate for you. However, with the measures selected by the Employment Agency, it may be more likely that you are doing a training that will personally not do you any good, because it is not suitable for you.

WeGebAU

WeGebAU - sounds strange at first but is actually a good idea: Behind the strange-looking abbreviation hides the training of low-skilled and busy older workers in Company - a program of the Federal Employment Agency. A study by the Institute for Employment Research now shows that it is not well received.

Employees know that they can increase their future job market opportunities through qualified training and thus counteract the risk of dismissal. But what is the future of small and medium-sized enterprises? How do they face a negative development of their company through low-skilled and older workers? How do they maintain and enhance their competitiveness? How do they face the demographic change of an aging society? How will they not become the future obstacle to economic growth?

Since 2006

As early as 2006, the Federal Employment Agency created WeGebAU, a program that enables the advanced training of low-skilled and older employees, even for small and medium-sized companies. There are basically two funding options: A subsidy towards wages for the low-skilled. The reimbursement of further training costs for the low-skilled and the elderly. “Low-skilled workers are promoted if they acquire a recognized professional qualification or a - if possible certified - partial qualification through further training. Older people are funded if they are over 45 years old and companies with fewer than 250 employees "(source: Federal Employment Agency)

A study conducted by the IAB Institute for Labor Market and Vocational Research from the year 2007 concludes that only every second company knows these federal funding possibilities. And only a quarter of them have used it so far. In addition to the assumption of no operational needs, 17% of the employers as the largest hurdle gave the exemption of their employees. It is precisely in expanding companies that the renouncement of employees for the purpose of further training seems to be very difficult. Meanwhile, WeGebAU's awareness has increased, but it can still be assumed that the reasons for non-use have not changed drastically.
