To have or to be?
"To have or to be" is a popular sociocritical work by social psychologist Erich Fromm of 1976. In it, Fromm explains the differences between the two character orientations of being and being.
That's exactly what the documentary "From Business To Being" by Hanna Henigin and Julian Wildgruber is about. Three executives start looking for ways out of the "hamster wheel of being driven": a former investment banker at Lehman Brothers, a large-scale project manager for the automotive industry and an area manager for the dm drugstore chain.
Overconcentration of doing
In the trailer it says very nicely: "In our society there is an overemphasis of doing and little significance of being". And maybe that's exactly what our working world needs:
Away from the ever-busy, perfectionist-fear-driven race in the hamster wheel and more appreciation for the moment and being here and now. Or as one of the interviewed managers says: "What's tomorrow is not so important for my current well-being."
Audience favorite and crowdfunding success
The film "From Business to Being" produced by Concadora Verlag together with MadeVision premiered at the "International Documentary Film Festival Munich" (DOKFEST).
He was elected to the audience. The film was funded entirely by foundations and crowdfunding. Fast 90.000 Euro was collected for this.
Social change desirable
The film makers Henigin and Wildgruber are concerned not only with the insights into human emotions but with a social change. In a statement on the website they say: "We want to live in a society where we meet each other as humans, where we feel loved, and where we do what interests us passionately. We believe this is no utopia and we know that we have to start with ourselves to make this happen. In our search for ways and means of making this vision come true, we have allowed ourselves to be guided by encounters with inspiring people. These encounters have been developed into a film. From Business To Being is an experiment, to invite everyone to ask themselves: 'How do I want to live and work?' And at the same time, it's our answer to that question. "
Questions and Answers
Therefore, in their film, they deal with questions that concern each of us:
- How do we live and work?
- Can meditation and awareness training help us free ourselves from stress-generating patterns of thought and action?
- What skills do managers need in the future?
- How do organizations in a globalized world have to be redesigned and designed to enable people to work together better?
In search of answers, the filmmakers bring together experts from business, science and meditation practice who bridge the gap between business and being, including Jon Kabat-Zinn, Janice Marturano, Arthur Zajonc, Tania Singer and Rudi ball kingdom.
