The perfect workflow when traveling

To organize properly is the alpha and omega if you want to work smoothly while traveling. So, from my own experience, I summarized what needs to be taken into account so that the mobile workflow does not falter.

Since I travel a lot, I can not help but organize my workflow accordingly. Because the time spent on the train or plane or waiting in between can also be used more productively - by doing your job.

3 tips for mobile work

Special attention should be paid to a few points so that mobile work on the road works as efficiently and smoothly as possible. And: Not every means of transport is equally well suited for work on the road.

  1. Working on the train: The best place to work and move is the train: get in, drive off in the mobile office, get out. There are people who purposely bought a Bahncard 100 to regularly enjoy the mobile office. However, this workplace also has disadvantages: punctuality, overcrowding, too few sockets, too few tables, no room to spread - and especially the bad telephone and Internet connection.
  2. Working on the plane: Until a few years ago I decided not to fly anymore, I was traveling more often by plane than by train. Unfortunately, because working there is much more complicated: check-in and security take much more time. In the take-off and landing phases, the laptop and mobile phone must remain switched off. And during the flight there are no sockets or internet available. In addition, the space is more than limited, especially when the front man leaning backwards in low-cost airlines. My conclusion therefore: If I can, I prefer to travel longer distances by train.
  3. Working in the car:It sounds difficult because you should actually focus on driving. But at least phone calls can be done in the car. Even social media tasks are possible in the car. So writes company consultant and Best of HR – Berufebilder.de®Author Katharina Antonia Heder:

“As a driver, you have […] two options: 1. Schedule regular intervals of around 30 minutes to stop. This can be very complicated, especially in tense phases or with high user interaction (conversations should not be dragged off). 2. I bought a voice control for the Blackberry especially for this. It is no different and all the messages are read to me: I can therefore interact immediately if necessary. ”

It depends on the right equipment

Depending on the means of transport you should have the right combination of mobile phone, laptop and tablet with you. You should also use the right tools, for example, to synchronize data always. You want to learn while traveling? Markus Jung describeshow to facilitate mobile learning in the truest sense of the word - by using particularly lightweight materials.

Not every tool and gadget that is offered to you makes sense. I also remember a visit to the IFA. In the search for technical innovations that improve our working world, I found a lot of technical gimmicks, partly practical, partly senseless. However, such as colorful, stylish plastic headphones, which can be connected to any computer or mobile device via a headphone jack, were a real crowd puller. Teenager comment: “It is so pointless that it is almost good again!”

“So senseless that it's almost good again”

Another idea caught my attention: inexpensive underwater protective covers for electronic devices - the cost is around 20 euros. "It can't be good for the price" - I thought - and wondered if I really wanted to try it out with my camera or my cell phone. In fact, the cases got quite good reviews on Amazon. However, the question that arises to me: Who needs something? I can still understand the desire to take underwater photos.

In fact, as the friendly lady at the booth explained to me, the first thing that was made was photo bags. But now, brand new and innovative, bags have also been developed for iPads, cell phones and MP3 players. Portable bluetooth speakers are also waterproof today and can swim ... Honestly: Would you like to listen to music while swimming? Or are the target group more whale researchers who want to record whale tones? Well, maybe the covers are good for the next heavy rain.

Careful data security

The above Article ZEIT ONLINE exposes further risks of mobile working in public space: the data theft. For on the way, someone could read data on the screen or listen to phone calls. Occasionally, I make fun of eavesdropping people on their ostensibly highly important phone calls and then googling. It's interesting what you learn.

What many do not realize is that journalists who listen to important information on the train may even use it. On the other hand, screen protectors and the simple principle that you do not make important phone calls in public places help.
