Why lectures should be well structured
You know that yourself: You are sitting in a lecture, but your thoughts wander off. Not infrequently, because the speaker has poorly structured and worked through his lecture and unnecessarily wastes the energy of his listeners and thus their time.
It then becomes clear every time what a well-structured speech is worth. One that comes to the point and does not dwindle into siblings and side strands. Because our brain is designed to make it easier for us to follow a contribution when we see an order in it.
Order and structure make listening easier
It therefore depends on a recognizable order: from the first to the tenth module, from the small to the big, from the unimportant to the important, from the theory, for example, from the beginning to the end, from the past to the future:
The audience can then easily follow the speech if it has the impression of following a good and rational structure. But why is that?
Structure saves energy when listening
The simple answer to this question is: energy is saved while listening. In addition, the predictability increases the good sense of control: the listener knows at any time, where he is at the moment, and what awaits him next. A good stylistic device: The three-step.
The three-step effect is rhythmic and melodious and produces concise and catchy messages. Boosting with Increases When we boost, it's like turning the main switch that controls the intensity of the emotions.
Climax and anti-climax
Increases from the small to the big (Klimax), when we want to arouse emotions, and from the big to the small (anti-climax), if we want to dampen emotions.
Facts that speak for you or your thesis make you "big" - that means you dedicate them speaking time, you visualize them, compare them with something bigger, stage them elaborately. This rhetorical principle is called Amplificatio.
Boost and talk
Facts that speak against you make them "small". Either they do not respond to them at all, or they neglect them, relativise them, do not visualize them, do not wrap them rhetorically. Remember the notice about the side effects in the TV advertising for drugs!
You can also increase by accumulation. In particular, we can make complicated or abstract things more comprehensible, since we offer many perspectives on a topic through paraphrasing. This allows each listener to choose the perspective that is most accessible to them.
4 stylistic device for exaggeration and increase
The content can also be enriched with exaggerations and increases. Some styling:
- climax: Increase of words, elements, arguments in the end. To the extreme. Make little one big; networks the connections. Hyperbole: Exaggeration: In the representation of persons or things is exaggerated far beyond the credible.
- Asyndeton: Several words are strung together unconnected. The counted and said is said to have a higher and outstanding significance. Above all, accumulate limbic desires.
- Disclaimer: It is expressly said about which one will not speak, to emphasize it even more. The resignation is well suited to shatter the opposing position.
- Anti Air: "Increases" from big to small. Leads from the whole to the detail. Put your finger in the wound.
