In the South little new

The conference was organized by Young IT Professionals (YITP) in Heidelberg. And all in all, there were hardly any completely new, groundbreaking theses - at least from the perspective of someone who has been working on the subject for years. Interesting were much more the many, different nuances.

For example, our panel discussion on the topic "IT shortage of skilled workers and demographic change in Germany, securing skilled workers through immigration and qualification."

The rolls were clearly distributed

Klaus Behrla, Vice President of Business Development Europe Linux, Professional Institute (LPI), Ulrich Engelhardt, the supervisory board of SHE Information Technology in Ludwigshafen and Caner Aver of the Center for Turkic Studies and Integration Research (ZfTI) Eat.

And as clear as the seating arrangement, the distribution of roles was also discussed: while Behrla and Engelhardt complained about how difficult it was to find adequately qualified employees, Caner Aver and I were more likely to consider the roles of those who generally complain about professional skills critically.

Immigration and wage dumping

Nevertheless, I found it exciting that the discussion so far was broadened to include a new aspect, the issue of immigration and the strengthening of professional powers abroad. Critical aspects such as wage dumping by foreign specialists or the problem of immigration for our social system were also considered.

Through the day led Dr. Andreas Müller, publisher of the magazine "Future profession", Which also brought such hot iron on the trapeze: Are not the unqualified family members who bring these" bought "professionals abroad, not a threat to our social systems?

See the topic differentiated

In the lectures and during the interviews during the breaks a very broad and differentiated picture of the subject was drawn.

So calculated Dr. Gerd Zika from the Institute for Employment Research suggests that there is no shortage of skilled workers. "In the long term, it is not foreseeable for the highly qualified that everyone in their skill segment will be employed," he said.

Rethink instead of complaining!

In the breaks, however, various personnel managers complained to me about how difficult it was to find suitable employees - and how I came to the conclusion that there is no shortage of skilled workers. The solution of the problem may look different: Rethinking instead of complaining!

Professor Dr. Jutta Rump from the Institute for Employment and Employability in Ludwigshafen thinks that Company with regard to Generation Y, would have to adjust to changed conditions for employee retention and motivation.

Further education and better working conditions

Companies must also rethink their working conditions and corporate culture. And they do well to invest in advanced training and trainee programs in time. If you train yourself in advance, you will not only have the specialists who need it, but you will not have to search for it afterwards.

In this context, Reinhard Schuhmann, Chairman of the Advisory Board of EMPIRIUS GmbH, reported on his cooperation with YITP and Frank Kaiser, Deputy Managing Director of the Chamber of Foreign Trade of Turkey, showed the opportunities of this "emerging market".
