Ready-to-use fast-paced techniques
Sometimes someone in our presence makes a "remark", a remark that we can not ignore, that should provoke us, or we are attacked unqualified. Actually, we think in silence, the whole thing is too stupid.
We would not like to say anything. But this is often not a good idea (sometimes already), because this leaves us to the other, the pirate, without a fight: We are unsure.
Theater of the absurd
In such situations, the "absurd theater" promises effective remedy. They do not even engage in an argument, but surprise the other with an absurd reaction. He has to react to that somehow, which usually overwhelms him, because he expects you to seriously respond to his attack or explode with rage. But they do something completely different.
With this, you have broken off the provocation, and embarrassed the provocateur herself without engaging in an argument and without offending him.
The principle is easy to grasp. You can use this technique immediately, and it's fun, at least if you have a sense of absurd comedy. Then you might well be able to use this technique more often - which in turn is a certain danger, because the overratting effect takes a little time.
But only a little bit. Because there are endless varieties of "absurd theater". And someone you've sidelined with this rather gentle technique will not necessarily try to provoke you a second or third time. And if you do, then go on with your "absurd theater". There is no danger of being left out.
Stage free for the absurd theater
Perhaps you know the plays of Eugène Ionesco or other representatives of the "absurd theater". The characters in these plays perform extremely strange dialogues. They express things that are unrelated to what has been said before, use inappropriate politeness phrases and constantly break the expectation of the audience in everything they do.
The same is true. They say something that has nothing to do with what you have said. You remain completely serious. You can talk about complete nonsense, but in the way you say it, you behave as if you were going to be normal.
The different types of the absurd theater
There are different varieties of the "absurd theater". We introduce you to two tried-and-tested variants.
The inappropriate proverb
Superficially, you behave like the "instant sentence". They answer the attack with a sentence, a proverb.
However, this is not related to the provocation and may well be nonsensical. "The jug goes to the well until it breaks." - "Many dogs are the rabbit's death." - "Who does not row, falls on the ice." Or similarly profound insights.
"Scientifically proven: women can not park properly"
Recently, Bernd works in a department in which many women are employed - apparently a problem for Bernd. For he has made a sport of provoking his colleagues with remarks that he calls "politically incorrect". One morning, he notes to his colleague Carola: "I read yesterday in the paper, it's now scientifically proven: Women can not park properly." Carola smiles and replies, "What's the name of it, Bernd? Envy broods swans from lazy duck eggs. "
Unsuitable always fits
Proverbs that fit anywhere and nowhere (such as the Russian saying with the lazy duck eggs) are best suited. Because the biggest effect comes when your counterpart first frowns to think about what you just told him. It gradually dawns on him that you've picked him up.
Other suitable specimens
- "The barber learns to shave on the fool's beard." (Spanish)
- The hurry bitch throws blind boy. "(Lithuanian)
- "If a hen's egg cuts a man's head, then there was a stone in it." (African)
- "There is no needle that is pointed at both ends." (Chinese)
You can also take distortions. For example: "He who digs a pit for another is a construction worker." Or you think something out for yourself. Only requirement: It may not fit.
If your counterpart asks in astonishment: "What does that have to do with it?", You look him in the eye and say mysteriously: "Think hard." Or you simply say what it is: "Nothing. "
