The Mosel thrilled in autumn with late autumn vineyards, which you can enjoy in an ideally sunny hike. The annual Moselsteig hiking event offers the opportunity to combine that with good wine and food.

Hiking for teams and individuals with pleasure component

The Moselsteig hiking event takes place every year on the first weekend of November. Regional, expert hiking guides, mostly trained cultural and wine ambassadors Moselle or nature experience companion, bring you the charms of the Moselsteig and its partner paths - the side skips and dream paths - especially close. All offered tours as well as hints for registration you will find here in overview.

The specially designed hikes in half-day or day format offer a variety of programs, depending on your individual taste and hiking condition. Always in focus: wine & enjoyment. Culinary stations are an integral part of all tours. The spectrum ranges from rustic picnics to nice restaurants and visits to top winemakers and is suitable for teams and groups as well as individuals.

Movement in the late autumn Moselle countryside

One of my absolute favorite Moselle tours this year is the Traumpfad Hatzenporter Laysteig, which invites you on a scenic hike through the late-autumn terraced Mosel landscape with its craggy rocks.

On pristine paths it goes on the steep slope of the Moselle directly through the vineyards. Climbing trails provide thrills, the striking Rabenlay and Kreuzlay for magnificent views before the path dives into the enchanted and quiet Schrumpftal.

Close to the vines

The circular route starts at the station in Hatzenport. A narrow path leads the hiker steadily uphill and reward him with a first great view. At the following weather station there are information boards on the topic climate.

On contact with the vines, it continues idyllic eastward, with fantastic views of the Moselle Valley, Hatzenport and St. John's Church arise. On some unspoiled paths, the striking Rabenlay with its breathtaking views is reached after a few kilometers.

From Rabenlay to Kreuzlay

Here the landscape changes, as the path turns away from the Moselle valley. The view sweeps over wide fields, only at the Kreuzlay the sparkling Mosel comes back into the field of vision. Over the gently undulating crests of the Schromberg Thalsberg, the hiker soon reaches a magnificent cripple oak forest, through which he dives into the seemingly bewitched, quiet Schrumpf valley.

Following the quietly chuckling Schrumpfbach, the path on the Probstmühle leads uphill to the heights of the Maifeld and finally leads back down the L 113 to the slope where the view over the Moselle opens up.

Das Beste kommt zum Schluss

In the further course right through the vines, the Mosel Panoramaweg offers wonderful views. Sure-footed hikers can try a special finale on the spectacular climbing path Dolling, before then in Hatzenport the goal is reached.

After the hike in the winery we let the impressions take effect during an autumn menu from the winegrower's kitchen and accompanying wines of the Winzerhof. This musical autumn wine tasting is traditionally also a fundraiser in favor of Haiti children's aid projects.

Registration

Registration for the guided hikes is exclusively at the tourist information in the Moselle country. The contact details are given on every tour.

Please ask for the payment options there. Please note that the number of participants is limited. Early registration with the tourist information mentioned is therefore recommended. A pre-registration is required.

Catering

All walks are marked by the wine and the culinary art. Often the tours are associated with a stop at a winemaker or a catering business.

Nevertheless, we recommend the transport of sufficient fluid and individual backpacking.

Equipment & condition

The Moselsteig is a demanding hiking trail, which often leads over narrow vineyard and rock paths. Sturdy footwear and sure-footedness are required.

In the detailed descriptions of the respective hikes you will also find information about the difficulty level of each tour.
