Just a few years ago, I presented the issue of company health management (BGM) in companies and stirred the advertising drum. Suppliers had to approach the companies and convince them of the importance of a healthier workplace design and working atmosphere. Today the interest of the companies has grown considerably.
One of the reasons for this development is the increasing suffering pressure in companies. Long working hours, increasing time and performance pressure and constant availability make many workers. High performers or executives fall out for a longer period of time without replacement. But the work still has to be done.

This often creates a stress spiral within a company which leads to great psychological and physical stress on all employees.
The consequences are again higher absenteeism and rising costs for the company. A company can counteract this - with the right tips.
1. BMG system can help strengthen the well-being of employees
How can employers counteract these consequences? A comprehensive BGM system can, for example, help to improve the well-being of the employees and thus their performance. Health-promoting offers have a high preventive effect and support employees before it becomes serious.
In case of acute problems, consultations with company doctors or psychologists can also be made. There is currently a high demand for employees. As a work and organizational psychologist, I often arrange pilot projects with companies.
2. Psychological consultations in companies
For example, psychological consultations are offered for half a year to see how they are accepted by the employees. The result is clear: so far, all these pilot projects have been extended due to high demand.
A healthy working environment also makes a great deal. Ergonomically designed workplaces and healthy food on the canteen menu also have a positive effect on the well-being of employees and on discounted sports offers, which also reduce stress levels.
3. Simple measures for stress reduction
Not to be underestimated are supposedly simple measures such as a meaningful division of labor and a corresponding communication. Everyone needs targets to work effectively.
However, the guidelines should not be determined from above, but should be decided together in consultation with the employee. In this way, under- and over-demands are avoided and a culture of communication is built up. Job descriptions and work instructions should be clearly communicated.
4. Uncertainties lead to uncertainty and frustration
Only those who really know what is expected of him and what tasks he has to fulfill can also perform his work satisfactorily. Uncertainties lead to uncertainty and frustration.
In any case, the feedback on the quality of the work should not fall under the table, since regular feedback is important. Praise makes the soul good and motivated for future tasks.
5. Constructive criticism
Criticism, on the other hand, should be constructively formulated. Because it does not help the employee if he knows that his performance was not good, but he is not told what he did wrong. Overall, good communication is important, no matter how stressful it is.
Only when an open atmosphere prevails in the company that it is communicated both to one another and to the management, will overload and overload be detected at an early stage. Then solutions can be developed together and workflows optimized.

Employees can also help themselves to reduce their stress levels. Often it helps to deal with one's own work situation. Stress causes can be identified by this.
Whether the workload, the work task, ambiguities, over- or underloading, inappropriate expectations, the work environment, the management style or the computer system - the point at which it has to be started has already been found.
6. Seek assistance in good time
If you realize that the tasks are growing over your head, do not hesitate to accept help. On the one hand by the colleagues who take a job and on the other hand by the employer, who can arrange a redistribution of tasks or other solutions.
Ultimately, every employee must also learn to set limits. That is to say, not every task that is brought to one without assuming any consideration!
7. Acquiring new skills can help
If you can hardly cope with your work, you should not burden yourself. If it is the fear of overburdening that paralyzes one, the acquisition of new skills can help. Through the occupancy of trainings or trainings, for example on the subject of time management, new skills can be acquired and self-confidence can be strengthened.
This reduces the stress factor in new tasks. Even their own expectation can be a burden. Often this is too high and can not be realized in a realistic way. In this case, it helps to consider the objectives and, if necessary, correct them a little.
