The right to further education
Monday morning 8 clock, still remains an hour until the management meeting. Hannes has prepared his agenda items. Employees have not failed, everything runs smoothly. An hour gained.
Only an old matter is still waiting for the settlement. By the end of the month, Hannes has to report his training needs to the HR department. As a manager, he is entitled to five days training from the in-house seminar program. "Right" is the official phrase, "Expectation" is subtle between the lines.
The seminar catalog
Hannes could do without training, but in terms of image technology, that is not possible. If he only books four, instead of the allowed five days, questions will be raised. Nothing to book, certainly not. So Hannes uses this lesson to get smart in the catalog. He flips through the categories: "Management", "Communication", "Personality Development", "Sales", "Processes and Procedures", "Software Courses", "Leadership".
From front to back, back to front, then to topics that interest him. Nothing convinces him. He decides to first create a list of requirements and then to look for the appropriate seminar. In an Excel workbook, Hannes divides the criteria under the headings "Must", "Important", "Nice-to-have" and "Under no circumstances". 'That makes sense', Hannes senses how well clear structures are doing him, especially to make central decisions. He writes down his thoughts in a brainstorming process before transferring them to the appropriate criteria column on the table.
The selection criteria
Under no circumstances may the seminar affect the holiday already booked. Also unfavorable are the weeks in which his deputy is absent. Ideal are weeks, in which a holiday is. Monday to Wednesday before driveway would be optimal. If he still frees the Friday as a time equalization day, the week is booked and he can switch off correctly. He combines the two decision-making paths together (he learned this in a seminar). He flips through the catalog and puts in the table the advantages and disadvantages of those courses that address him the most. Hannes is proud.

Lead staff meetings?
"Challenging employee interviews" he could use right now. 'However', Hannes thinks through it, 'it smells like role-playing with video footage'. He certainly sees the benefits of this, but he does not want to be so exposed.
He is not only supposed to learn something, but also to impress with the other students. So this seminar falls from the agenda. And Hannes has another criterion: no completely new topics. It is best to choose a seminar which he has already attended. This is the easiest way to show what he's got. Image is important.
In the economic crisis?
Against the course "Management cycle in the economic crisis" speaks that probably important colleagues are there. A seminar is not just a personal relaxation and image event, but also a network party.
This would be a very good place for the seminar. It takes place in a golf hotel. This suggests great aperitifs and sporty intermediate parts. But sport - Hannes can only be embarrassed.
Basically, Hannes the course "Presentation Technique" would be good. Granted, there are role-playing games too, but here Hannes takes it sportily. You can prepare. Preparatory tasks, however, are suboptimal. If he does, he will almost be the only one who made them. In addition, in the seminar everything is repeated again, which is inefficient. If he does not, there's a conflict with the image.
In the category "Personality Development" Hannes finds the seminar "Selfmanagement": 3 + 1 Tag. That gives at least four days. The hotel fits, there are no role playing games.
Impressively, great stories can be told here and the other participants impress with it. However, he can take a lot with him in secret. Nowhere can one hide the inability and the potential for improvement so cleverly.
The seminar room

' Conversely, a renunciation of the seminar "self-marketing" means that he does not need "self-marketing" because he already knows it. Hannes thoughts turn in a circle. Also in time it is getting tight.
15 minutes to the meeting. He would like to give his colleagues the registration right away. This also for image reasons, because he would be the first from the GL, who has opted for a course. Hannes could once again position himself subtly as a "doer and decision maker". It would be fitting if he registered for the workshop "Decide - fast and correct". This shows that the topic is important to him. And the fact of being the first to register makes it clear that he wants to make progress at the highest level. That makes an impression and gives respect.
The budget is canceled!
Three minutes left. Hannes sprints to the meeting. Hannes happily resorts to the completed form in the agenda item "Further training for management". The CEO gives the HR Director the word: "Ladies and gentlemen. Unfortunately, for financial reasons, the training budget for the Kader levels 1 - 3 has been canceled until further notice. "
