25's best employers for 2018 include companies from a wide variety of industries. In addition to the textile industry, trade, IT and research, many employers from the consultancy and classic industries will be among the top performers this year. With an average rating of 4,7, the consulting firm Bain and Company - last year's winner in the US - replaced SAP (ranked 3) in Germany as the best employer of the year, although the Walldorf-based software company was even able to increase its average rating (from 4,4 to 4,6).
What distinguishes top-placed companies
A closer look at top-ranked employers shows that salary is not necessarily the highest priority for employees. On the other hand, other factors such as employee benefits, culture and values and career opportunities are highly valued. Often the reviews for the top 5 employers highlight great colleagues and a good working atmosphere.
Compared to the previous year, the social network Facebook was able to make up one more place among the major US companies and is the new number one. This puts Facebook at the top of the rankings (2018, 2013, 2011) for the third time and has been on the Best Places To Work list for eight consecutive years. In the UK, Facebook is making its debut this year as the Best Employer of the Year (ranked 4), with Google ranking first (rank 5 in the US). Facebook's COO Sheryl Sandberg says:
"The most important thing is the people who work on Facebook. We're really excited about the award because it's based on authentic reviews from real people. The best part of working on Facebook is that we encourage our employees to come to work completely as they themselves. We all believe in our mission and we value each other's relationships. Our corporate culture is based on the strengths of our employees - we are looking for people who are outstanding in what they do. "
How are employers rated concretely?
When employees submit a business review to Glassdoor, they are asked to list the pros and cons of each company. In addition, the employee is encouraged to give advice to the management and asked how satisfied he or she is generally with the employer. It is possible to assess the manager and five key attributes of the workplace: career opportunities, compensation and benefits, culture and values, leadership and work-life balance. In addition, employees are asked if they would recommend their employer to a friend and how they assess the business outlook over the next six months.
The best employers in Germany 2018 are determined by Glassdoor by its own algorithm. This takes into account the quality, the quantity and the uniformity of the activated company valuations, which were transmitted by employees in Germany. All reviews were between the 1. November 2016 and the 22. October 2017 delivered.
Employers who have been analyzed for the German ranking must have at least 20 company ratings in the specified period.
