Too much expertise, too little practice
If you ask in advertising agencies how they assess the abilities of graduates, you usually hear a loud moaning in the regular case, and not infrequently then the statement that the actual training for the students only starts on work day.
In spite of the Bolognar form, students have too little practice, too much expertise and at least the most important good - creativity - with them. It does not matter if it's about communication scientists, business economists or related degrees.
Practice from Day One: The Reaction to Criticism?
Recently, I reported on the new course of studies at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, which is currently enjoying a great media interest: Ua has taken up the topic of Spiegel Online and the Hochschule Anhalt has recommended my contribution.
In current reporting, however, one fact is constantly missing: the practical assessment of the program. Thus, the students are already advised on their first day at the university, that they have to work for the main subjects in project form for real applicators work.
Anyone who still knows the good old seats, ie bills for the pure presence in lectures, exercises and seminars, will be surprised: they are not available at the university.
Instead, documents must be prepared in the form of project work. These always include the linking of theoretical foundations with the task of the real client.
Preparation for the real workday
This procedure ensures students and Company equally an improved career entry, since already during the apprenticeship the future tasks are practiced.
Advertising agencies and companies with the need for professional staff should in no case miss the chance to carefully follow the progress of graduates and students: the existing criticism will be a thing of the past and similar offers must first exist through this training standard.
Mobility semester as a treat for companies and students
Possibility for a test offers the mobility semester, which can be done either abroad or internships. This means that the company and student have the chance to get to know each other during their studies for more than six months.
This opportunity can quickly bring the difference to the previous study subjects: For example, the interns are then able to create their own marketing concepts and to plan and implement online activities under consideration of abstract goals - an absolute added value for both sides.
Less drop-out rates + Training of qualified specialists
For students, this approach is above all one thing: the certainty already in the study to know whether the work field fits to oneself. The criticism of the eternal theory should in no case arise, so that the drop-out rates will be very low.
If you go to the province of Saxony Anhalt, you will find an idyllic campus, which trains at the highest level - and that should be reason enough to deal with the educational offer.
