From the author:
Perfection makes us ready
Too much perfection only hurts. Do not you believe? The claim to perfection makes us complete - and does not let us finish. Because: when is something really perfect? You know that: Tomorrow is the important presentation, the concept does not just have to sit, it has to be perfect. But that's exactly how you block yourself. How's better?
One can still research more, illuminate aspects in more detail or formulate more accurately. With this demand, one can lose a lot of time, especially in the early conceptual phases of information collection and structuring.
Lose sight of the essentials
The main problem, however, lies in the following: We rub into details, lose sight of the essential, the whole.
We literally lose the overview! What can help is rules from time management!
To prevent this, you can use the Pareto principle. It is also known as the 80-20 rule and helps to set bounding limits.
The rule indicates that 20 percent of the possible workload is already 80 percent of the desired result. Therefore, focus on the essential 20 percent of the activities that target the most important aspects.
Think about the target group
Concept creation and strategy development is fine, but customers, colleagues and bosses also expect new ideas to be presented to them in an appealing way. What should you pay attention to?
Results want to be presented in an appealing way, that is to say they are processed in a visually successful manner and, if possible, personally presented by you. But do not just think about your direct client, who decides on the concept.
Think about the scalability
A concept is also to be implemented and applied, ie sooner or later more people will be brought into the boat.
Experience has shown that it is unfavorable if these groups of people are involved in the information process late in the process.
Carefully prepare changes
It is in human nature to experience changes as menacing if they are not self-chosen and carefully prepared.
So make the affected parties involved. This increases the understanding of the change and the willingness to implement it many times.
Ensure a successful presentation of your concept - initially based on your direct client. But keep thinking and planning how to communicate in that Company should take place in it.
Involve people who have interest and points of contact (stakeholders, stakeholders, users) with your topic at an early stage.
Concept work - where is the problem?
The problem with conceptual work is that it requires many and very different work steps that we often try to tackle simultaneously.
Here a clear focus and a systematic approach helps - step by step. Which is not helpful: Headless jumping between steps.
Help, where do I start?
"Where do I start? What am I going to do next? ” We ask ourselves these questions when we are faced with a new topic.
However, jumping back and forth between different work steps costs a lot of time and nerves. And disorderly procedures lead to multiple loops and increased workload. In most cases, we actively block our brain.
6 Tips for structured procedures
Structured approach is the key to success. Work systematically and step by step. The following concept phases are your roadmap to success:
- Clear the order / goal
- Research and organize information
- Develop ideas and solutions
- structure the concept coherently
- the concept convincingly in writing
- successfully communicate the concept
