Looking into the crystal ball
Coaching always repaired where a deficit arose and in places where someone had made mistakes or failed. And it is no longer comparable to a "Gurutreuen" consulting form that works without transparent technology.
In which the coach followed sudden inspirations and "sense", which most reminded of fortune-telling glass ball tactics. We are convinced that coaching has long ago freed itself from the grimy corner and with it the practicing coaches.
Hammer or Meisel? Irritating diversity
Although there is an irritating variety of offers and coaches: From nutritional, (book) writing and media coaching about vocal or style coaching to anti-cellulite coaching (googling is worthwhile) or body coaching. Author colleagues aptly talk about hyphen coaching.
We believe today in successful coaching is not about the decision whether "Hammer or Meisel" should be unpacked in a question.
With focus on implementation
The coach of today works much more on his self-understanding, on his human image, and likes to flirt in this individualization with old philosophers and thinkers. And since this is such a central part, we also deal with the issue of ethics and attitude.
And we do that less in theory, because that has already been developed by many other authors' colleagues, but we focus on the "how" and a possible implementation of this theory: how do we conduct coaching discussions and how do we live the attitude.
The emancipation of coaching
The modern coaching approach has thus changed: he became more general, mature and emancipated. This is probably one of the reasons why individual coaching is increasingly in demand.
This development may be due to the effects of the individualization and globalization of our society or to be sought in the various treadmills of everyday life.
Refine the communication
In any case, guidance and guidance is visibly sought. The fact that there is an increased demand for coaching competences is a fact in itself, whose causes and reasons we do not shed light on here.
We are much more interested in coaching and people who, as coaching users, improve their communication. For it is a difference whether a person seeking help turns to a willing listener or to a person who has coaching skills.
What distinguishes the coach from good friends?
Willing listeners for problem situations can be found very quickly in our reflected society. Since every person has a psyche and a personality, most people also assume that they can help with "psychological" or "personal" issues.
Of course, everyone can find an attentive listener with a friend, a doctor, or a pastor, a colleague or a supervisor, within their relationship or with other nearby people.
And yet, contrary to the general assumptions, it makes a remarkably dramatic difference whether the listener adheres to certain communication rules and has a certain inner attitude (or not).
Actually, everyone can ...
Our core message is: anyone who wants to, can acquire the skills, as well as the inner attitude and conviction for professional coaching accompaniment. Both the questioning techniques as well as the ability to keep the content out of the problem of the coaching client can be learned.
Because if you look at coaching in this way, then it is primarily an attitude and a technique. It is the opportunity to help others to work out their own solutions. Conversely, ignorance of these cornerstones is the basis for failed consultations or misunderstandings among many listeners.
A question of the right technique
Sometimes the need for help and personal experiences of the counselor block "supportive" communication with the person seeking help. And then perhaps solutions are created, which have more reference to the guide than to seek help: "I in your place, would do it (...)!" Or "When I was in a similar situation like you, has helped me the following ( ...) ". This or similar advice you know from your personal life.
Of course, it can make a difference if the coach has years of experience in coaching or if someone just started coaching. Nevertheless, we are firmly convinced that even a "newbie" who masters his coaching tools can help a client and make a positive difference. (In any case, coaching questions are different than advice.)
