Author photo_Ken_Robinson2747Knighted by Queen Elizabeth II, Sir Ken Robinson is one of the leading innovators. Born in 1950 in Liverpool, UK, Ken Robinson developed polio at the age of four. He had to give up his dream of becoming a professional footballer at an early age. As a young adult, he realized his real talent: speaking in front of an audience. Today he is one of the most sought-after speakers in the world, advising governments, corporations and NGOs in Europe, Asia and the US. In 1998 he headed a creativity, education and business commission for the UK government and later became a key figure in developing a strategy for Creative and Economic Development in the Peace Process for Ireland. He was also one of four international advisers to the Singapore government looking to become a creative hub in Southeast Asia. For 12 years he was Professor at the University of Warwick (UK). In 2011 he was included in the list of world elite thought leaders by the US business magazine “Fast Company” and in the ranking of the Thinkers50 list of the world's best business thought leaders. With over 25 million clicks, his TED speech “How Schools kill Creativity” is the most-viewed in the history of TED conferences. Ken Robinson lives with his family in Los Angeles. His last book "The Element" was a New York Times bestseller. More information at sirkenrobinson.com/

Career choice Job search Application Development of potential: Finding out what you really want

When choosing a career and looking for a job, most people orientate themselves on what is possible or what (false) role models are setting an example for them. A lot of potential is lost in the process.

The meaning in life

Why is it so important to find his element? The most important reason is personal. Finding your element is crucial to understand who you are, what you can do and what you can do with your life.

Another is a social one. A lot of people are missing one Sense in life. The result can be seen everywhere: in the sheer number of people who are not interested in their work, in the increasing numbers of schoolchildren and students who are dropping out of the education system, in the increasing use of antidepressants, alcohol and painkillers. Perhaps the clearest evidence is the annual suicide rate, especially among young people.

Human resources

Human resources are like natural resources. They are often hidden under the surface and it is difficult to find them. On the whole, we are not very successful in implementing this in our schools, companies and in society in general.

For this omission we pay a high price. I'm not saying that all of our social problems are solved by helping everyone find their element, but it certainly helps to improve the overall situation.

The balance in life

The third reason is an economic one. To be in one's element means not only to pursue a profession that pleases you. Some people do not want to earn money by doing an activity in their element, others can not; this varies from case to case.

Finding his element has an impact on the balance in life as a whole. However, there are also economic reasons to discover its element.

Not just any job

Nowadays it is normal for a person to perform various activities or even occupations in the course of his or her working life. With the job you start with, you do not necessarily stop. If you know what your element is, you will have a much better sense of where you want to go and will not simply move from one job to the next.

Regardless of how old you are, it is the best way to find a task that really fills you. When you have arrived at the food center, it may be time for a radical change. Maybe you are looking for a profession that secures your livelihood and in which you really get up.

How you can use unemployment

If you are unemployed, there is no better time than now to listen to yourself and look around before choosing a new direction. This is more important than ever in an economic crisis.

If you know what your element is, you will most likely find ways to earn your livelihood. Meanwhile, it is important for institutions, especially in times of tight budgets, that their employees do what they really mean.

Employees who are fully involved

A company with full-fledged employees will be more likely to succeed than one whose employees are largely alienated, cynical, and uninspired.

If you are already in retirement, consider what promises you have not yet solved. Now is the best time to rediscover an old enthusiasm for something and to pursue ways that you have once turned away from.
