The importance of nonverbal communication
The importance of non-verbal communication for the personal impression is undisputed. And yet, many people turn their time away from important lectures or conversational situations by editing the "right" words, instead of filing in front of the mirror at the individual appearance.
Do you feel that you are being overlooked and overlooked in your job? Can you not enforce your good ideas often? Of the Chef shows the cold shoulder and the colleagues do not perceive you. Why is it? Arguments and expertise lack very few.
With the body on a cuddly course
Rather, it is about how to say what you say: The body language is not strong enough, or worse, contradicts verbal communication. During oral criticism, gestures such as gimmicks with watches, jewelery, clothes, pencil or the hairstyle proclaim the opposite.
All too often, we say with our bodies: "I am the love, kind and friendly, who can harm no one." From the vernacular we all know: "A gesture says more than 1000 words."
If looks could kill
Everyone knows him, the saying "If glances could kill". Although looks are the most influential elements of body language, only a few are aware of their concrete impact. Just observe the behavior of women when a colleague tells a vulgar, xenophobic or even misogynist joke.
Most look embarrassed, despite outrage and inner resistance elsewhere. The result: The colleagues feel confirmed or discover new areas of attack: "Look, the little one is uncomfortable!"
Men with imperator eyes, women as mice
If we compare the effect of men 's and women' s looks, then the serious difference is apparent. Men usually act with the imperator's view: direct eye contact, possibly even a critical, serious face, and thus radiate dominance, offensive or even aggressiveness.
In contrast, the looks of many women are rather uncertain, fleeting and are masked by a "nice" smile. They arrange themselves with (k) a view. Where do you look in conversation with customers, colleagues, the supervisor or in the meeting?
The awareness of one's own effect
This is the first step towards a more effective appearance: to develop an awareness of one's own effects.
The next step is to spy on, correct and train. Take a closer look at successful business people and learn from them. They look very different in the world. But even these have not been born with the promising look. They, too, first had to train themselves instruments such as the "Warnblick" in precarious situations.
The mirror as ally
A great ally can be your mirror. He shows you exactly how you work. Practice your own warning look before sitting. Be aware of everyday life:
- Am I actively looking for eye contact?
- Can I stand by the gaze or the stare of others and stare at me by staring back?
- Do I maintain eye contact during a conversation? Sometimes we do not do that because we do not want to "stare" at the others. Unfortunately, this is completely different with the other person; namely as evasive behavior.
- How do I react in sight duels? Many supervisors or colleagues look so dark and evil that we automatically avoid the view - this is considered a body language capitulation.
- How do I react to the inappropriate behavior of my colleague?
- Can I use my warning vision to return it to the path of virtue?
Well, when do you start your next aerobics class?
