Without Eastern European harvest helpers it does not work!
It's not an easy job, I've tried it myself: foil back, stooping, finding asparagus, shoveling with two fingers, using the tool as far as possible to get the whole asparagus out, so that it does not break off, make hole with the trowel again, erect - and to the next asparagus.
The real hard work is this: every picker bends well 2000 times a day and brings in Schnit 100 kilos of asparagus from the ground, the front runners even 280 kilos. There are machines, but they do not do the job with the same quality.
Therefore, companies like the Asparagus and adventure farm Klaistow near Beelitz, south of Berlin, probably collapse without the Polish and Romanian harvest workers - because you look for German employees in the asparagus harvest in vain. "Find German seasonal workers," says PR lady Claudia Mikosch.
A hotly debated topic
A topic that is hotly debated by the media and always accompanied with a lot of polemics: "Obtaining unemployment benefits II, which are condemned by the employment agencies for Spargelstechen." Or "The lazy German HartzIVler, who are too good for asparagus stabbing in comparison to the Eastern Europeans. "
"Tramp" Dirk Johl sees the topic more relaxed: "This has nothing to do with laziness. For Eastern Europeans, the same money is just a lot more valuable. They come here only to earn money. "Accordingly, the wages are: An Eastern European harvest helper gets a basic salary of 900 Euro, in addition, he is paid for performance. "There are 2000-3000 Euro in there," says Johl.
Re-entry thanks to asparagus
Germans, however, receive the hour depending on the task 5-10 Euro. They are used everywhere where communication is concerned, for example in sales. "Well, 20 percent of the employees on a Spargelhof are German," explains the tramp.
Johl is familiar with the subject: Since 2005 he cares for the long-term unemployed, whom he allows by re-entering the profession as a re-entry into the profession. Since then, he has been responsible for 1500 cases for the job center, for the district of Potsdam-Mittelmark since January the option domain is responsible.
More than an 1 Euro job
An 1 Euro job is not the asparagus cutting: "Of course, people can not get Hartz IV and the full salary. In any case, they earn more from seasonal work than just unemployment benefit II. "
The aim of the measure is not the money, but that people find back into the job: "If people have not worked for some years, they are no longer used to regular jobs. Spargeltechen helps to get used to working life again. "
"He who just complains, does not improve anything!"
He currently manages 200 people, 98 of whom he has currently housed in a job. Many work through the seasonal work re-entry. "One is always a little mother Theresa for the people and is happy, when they meet again and they have made it," shows Johl enthusiastically. "30 percent of my people are back to 3 years that they want to work!"
How many people have returned to a job over time, he can not say. Of polemics against the employment agency, as it often occurs in the media, but he holds nothing: "It is all right, to improve the situation of the people and constructively to do something. Anyone who just complains, does not achieve anything. "
A moving professional life
Johl himself is the best proof of a busy career: 1970 born in Treuenbrietzen in Brandenburg, he wanted to work as a child in the agricultural industry: "I was simply fascinated tractors and combines," he grins mischievously.
1986-1988, he completed an apprenticeship as a skilled worker for plant production and worked in a farm in the former GDR. But then, after the fall of the Berlin Wall, agriculture collapsed.
In the following years Johl worked as a window fitter, coal driver and freight forwarder. 1999 had to give up hard physical labor for health reasons and made a rehab conversion to a businessman for office communication.
For the love of agriculture
However, his love for agriculture has put him back in the rut: since 1999, he has been working in the employment agency "Agrotime" in Potsdam, which provides workers in agriculture. Incidentally, Johl has created the figure of Landreichers - out of love for the region and because it has turned out so: "At some point, I was simply asked if I can not do guided tours," explains Johl.
The placement of seasonal workers, however, is a job that occupies him all year round: in the winter he holds infoverations and motivates people for seasonal work. And in the summer he goes with them to the field!
