Agile Sourcing, Recruiting and Skills Shortage in IT: Creating the Workplace of the Future

A majority of German companies understand digital transformation as merely the intelligent networking of machines and the automation and digitization of processes or documents. Humans take a back seat and stay with internal structures Company happy with the well-tried. The question of why is easy to answer: because we are (still) well.

The workplace of the future

Work and workplace have not been related for a long time - technological developments make it possible to be effective and productive in terms of time and space from the “actual” workplace. Corporations like SAP are leading the way and largely leaving the decision from where to work to the employees. Technologies allow this flexibility, but it is up to companies how and to what extent they want to use the potential.

The impact on the labor market and the world of work, on the other hand, is unstoppable and will be very noticeable. Because supply and demand do not develop structurally synchronously, but independently of each other. Over time, there may be a vacuum, because the necessary resources and know-how will be lacking in the working world for a long time for the time being.

Skills shortage in IT?

Described using a specific example, this means that the German IT industry is faced with a considerable shortage of skilled workers. There is already a shortage of workers for over 53.000 vacancies, with a growth trend of around five percent per year. A trend that will continue to be felt in the future. According to the prognoses of the study “Arbeitslandschaft 2040”, there will be a shortage of 2020 million workers in Germany alone by 1,8 - not just related to the IT sector.

A look at the demographic situation gives a first impression of the reasons: the proportion of pensioners is increasing annually, while at the same time the number of employees between 20 and 65 is decreasing by about 12 percent. In addition, a shortage of graduates of 50 percent is expected by the year 2030.

Life worlds change

Self-fulfillment, flexibility, independence and freedom are in the first place, especially for the younger generation in terms of the world of work. This change in values is due, on the one hand, to digital transformation and, on the other hand, to the development of different living environments.

In other words, there will only be direct, direct working relationships in the future, and the bond between people and companies will decrease. This creates fluid as well as multiple corporate affiliations and temporary commitments will increasingly be part of the normal.

Labor market and the world of work tomorrow

Is there any question left: what effects does this have on the world of work? It is clear that the work has to be reorganized and the human being has to be put into focus again. The biggest challenge is represented by resources lacking competences: trainees and graduates, refugees and migrants, resources from nearby countries and exhibited employees, as well as 65-year-olds who still want and can participate in retraining and further education programs.

To fill these gaps and find qualified staff, short-term vacancies or employing professionals with niche skills, human resources services agencies will become increasingly important. This also applies to the qualification and further education of employees.

Master agile sourcing challenges in recruiting

Often, there is a lack of in-house know-how to successfully carry out projects. That's where Agile Sourcing comes into play. The concept offers the optimal mix of different competencies and resources. Skilled workers are made available to the company in the required number, at the right time, in the right place and with a legally compliant contract.

In addition, in addition to human resources, flexible and agile solutions through specialized, often small businesses are often needed to complement the sourcing portfolio as needed. But also the training of internal resources can be crucial to successfully carry out projects. Agile Sourcing ensures that companies take an important step towards the Modern Workplace and prepare themselves for the future in the long term.H

Think about tomorrow today

What are the consequences of the shortage of skilled workers and what new requirements do we have to face? This question will occupy the labor market in the future.

The younger generation, and thus future workers, puts life and not career or profession at the center. Money and security often only play a minor role. The world of work must now adapt to this and create concepts for the future.

Creating the workplace of the future - that is so easy to say if the employees don't go along with it. It is important to convince them of the need for change. So I like this approach very much.

    Great review, very much read!
