From the author:
It is exactly like that. But you are far more free than you believe. Do not you believe? Look for yourself:
Every profession involves very specific rules. Completely indifferent, whatever you may take. Take, for example, the dentist, who has done his own business to offer dentistry according to his taste and to be his own master. As he turns and turns, he will arrange appointments with his patients. At these times, he and his entire practice have to function. Punktum. Otherwise he will have had the longest time patients. Imagine the dentist coming and going whenever it suits him, because he is restricted by his freedom of movement.
It is therefore completely immaterial in which form the dentist offers his services. Whether as an employee or as a self-employed person. He will have to adhere to the regularity of the patient, provided that he has to earn his income. However, he is very free during the treatment session in his mode of operation, his service, his treatment with patients and his staff, his practice and procedure. For the dentist, therefore, it makes no sense at all to deprive the agreed treatment appointments as a freedom. Because no matter how he will offer dentistry, he will arrange appointments in some way.
Dependencies can have a liberating effect
But our dentist can also feel very free because of the very good treatment schedule. Because a full calendar of appointments is the best proof of his good reputation and thus his certainly good income.
It is only through the full calendar of appointments and his personal attachment to time and place that he can create freedoms which are not possible for everyone. He can shape the opening hours of his practice to a large extent according to his own taste, as well as the times in which he can practice the holiday and leisure Further education closes.
This is exactly what you can do
No matter what profession you are doing. Ask yourself this:
- Have you applied for the job you are now pursuing?
- Do you appear at your workplace every day?
- Did you know beforehand that the job also includes certain duties?
- If you were to work with another employer, would a lot of work, routines, and specifications be identical?
If you answered "yes" to all four questions, you can confidently put the treadmill feeling to rest. You will never change certain things in your job, simply because they are solid parts of your job. Just as every profession has immutable components that restrict people.
You can do that now
Be aware of where you have freedom of design within the given limits, routines, sequences, etc. Take these liberties consciously as freedom. Try to find out how you can make changes in your sphere of influence in order to feel freer and more enjoyable about your work.
For whoever feels free and likes to do his work is invariably good in it. And this perceived freedom and measurable high quality of work will have an effect on your environment. Who knows what liberties you will have in the future without you?
