Therefore, communication is important for the entrepreneur Sophia von Rundstedt: "An employee should think carefully about the personal goals:
- How do I work, where can I cut back? Can be there around the clock for the child, with perhaps negative consequences for the career?
- Or a career with management responsibility, less time for the child?
Step 2: Talk to the boss in good time
"Then you should talk to the boss about what this decision for the career and the Company means ", says von Rundstedt, herself head of 300 employees, of which 70 percent women.
Many things can happen during parental leave. "It is called to weigh together and find suitable models," explains the mother of two children. Unfortunately, flexible regulations are often subject to rigid laws.
Women fail at their bosses
Communicating is not always the right solution: A recent US study by the management consultants Bain and Company shows that women often fail in their job due to male-dominated role models and missing female role models.
The women feel especially under-supported by their direct bosses.
How the quota can help
Sophia von Rundstedt also knows such prejudices. The women's quota could help clean up the roll-up, but she did not go far enough.
"We need the quota not only on supervisory boards, but also on the boards," she says. What can women do themselves? "Networks," advises von Rundstedt, who is involved in Working Moms. "Especially women often underestimate how important this is for their own progress."
The right company and the right partner
And if the boss or his own partner is not ready to compromise?
"Then," says von Rundstedt, "you should think twice about whether the company is still the right one, or to what extent the relationship with the partner bears."
